97 - King Saul

Kathleen's thoughts

1 Samuel 7,8,9,10
Judges 12

Samuel cried out to the Lord and The Lord's hand was against the Philistines all of Samuel's life.
samuel judged Israel throughout his life.

Fourteenth judge Abdon and he had 40 sons and 30 grandsons who rode 70 donkeys. Abdon judge Israel 8 years. When he died he was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim in the hill country of the Amalekites.
I wonder what is so significant about riding 70 donkey's?
And this is what I found ... He is righteous and victorious and humble riding on a donkey.
Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly,O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, thy Kin cometh unto thee; he is just and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel. Joel and Abijah. They were judges in Beer-sheba. However his sons did not walk in the ways of Samuel. they perverted justice.

Israel desires a king. So they went to Samuel at Ramah and said to Samuel that he is getting old and they asked him to appoint a king to rule over them. Samuel felt this was not of the Lord and considered it sinful. so he prayed to the Lord. But the Lord told him to listen to the people and everything they say. They have not rejected you but they have rejected Me as their King. God gave Samuel strict instructions to tell them what would happen with their rights if they have a king rule over them. They basically would not have any power of their land daughters live stock, servants, vineyards and olive orchards he can take the 10th of their stock and you yourselves can become servants and when that day comes you will cry out because of the king you've chosen for yourselves but the Lord won't answer you on that day.
The people refused to listen to Samuel and wanted a king to rule over them.

Saul meets Samuel. Saul a young man was the son of Kish. Now Kish's donkeys had wondered off and Saul was told by his father to go and look for them but could not find them. Saul wanted to return to his father but his attendant said there is a man of God in this city who is highly respected and everything he says is true. Lets go and find out but Saul said he had no gift to take him so his attendant said he had a piece of silver.
In those day the man of God was called a "Seer" (Prophet)
The Lord had spoken to Samuel "at this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over My people Israel. He will save them from the hand of the Philistines. When Samuel saw Saul coming towards him the Lord told him, "Here is the man I told you about; he will rule over My people"

So Samuel anoints Saul to be ruler over Israel. The attendant went on to his home and Saul remained behind for Samuel to reveal to him the word of God.

SAUL REIGN WAS 1065-1025BC

1 Samuel 10:17-27 Here we find that Samuel tells the tribes of Israel about Saul will be their king. And all the people shouted "Long live the king!"

Blessings
