101 - David and Goliath.

Kathleen's thoughts

1 Samuel 17,18
Psalm 23: 1-6, 5: 1-12, 12: 1-86

David comes before Saul and says he will fight Goliath.
Saul says he is but a youth but David speaks with wisdom ans says Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them. For he has defied the armies of the living God. Then David said these wonderful words "The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine,.
Saul then gave permission for him to fight but first gave him his armour which was far too heavy and cumbersome for David. He removed it then told Saul I'm not used to them.
David took five smooth stones from the wadi and put them in the pouch, in his shepherd's bag.with his sling in his had he approached the Philistine.

Can you just see the two of them standing facing each, it must have been a awesome but frightening sight for the Israelites. But the Lord is with you where ever you go.

And so David kills Goliath with his stone and sling, the stone hitting his temple and it kills him.

When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they ran and then the Israelites shouting their battle cry and chased the Philistines there were bodies strewn all along the shaarim road to Gath and Ekron.
David came to the Saul with the Philistines head still in his hand it was here that Saul asked who's son are you.
From this day Saul kept David with him and Jonathan (Saul's son) made a covenant with David because he loved him as much as himself. Then Jonathan removed the robe he was wearing and gave it to David along with his military tunic, his sword, his bow and his belt.
David wrote Psalm 23. The Lord is my Shepherd. After all these years we still sing this Psalm and preach it and what a blessing it has been to many.

David fought many battles for Saul and was victorious and was highly praised by the Israelites
Saul's threatened by David's victory for what ever and where ever David is and does the Lord's hand is upon him. So with the result is Saul tries to kill David twice but David got away from him. Saul was afraid of David because he knew the Lord was with him.
David prays for protection Psalm 5
Saul tries to marry David to his daughter Merab but David said no then again to Michal for Saul knew she loved David. Saul sets a price of 100 Philistine foreskins to take revenge on his enemies but by so doing this Saul's intentions was to cause David's death at the hands of the Philistines. But once again David won the battle and gave what Saul requested and David then married Michal.. And once again Saul became even more afraid of David and from here on Saul was David's enemy.
David prayer for help Psalm 12

I would love to have heard David sing and play the harp. His wisdom and guidance from the Lord must have shone all around him.

Blessings
Kathleen.
