1 Samuel 16,17

I love the book of Psalms. As you can see from Chareen's thoughts she has placed today's readings there so I will not repeat them here.
The rise of David is our reading today.
Samuel is sent to Bethlehem and was told by the Lord to "fill your horn with oil and go I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem because I have selected a king from his sons"
Samuel was afraid and asked the Lord How can I go as Saul will hear about this and will kill me. the Lord tells Samuel to take a cow for a sacrifice and if any one asks you, you to say I have come to sacrifice to the Lord then invite Jesse to the sacrifice and I will let you know who you are to anoint for Me.
And so Samuel did what the Lord required of him and consecrating themselves then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. Each son was brought before Samuel until the youngest which was not there but out tending the sheep for his father. Samuel told Jesse he will not eat until the child returns from the field and so Jesse sent for him. Then the Lord said to Samuel "anoint him for he is the one" so Samuel anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord took control of David from that day forward.
One of my favourite verses is found here from 1 Samuel 16: 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or his stature, because I have rejected him, man does not see what the Lord see, for man sees what is visible, but the lord sees the heart.
The spirit of the Lord leaves Saul. He becomes very troubled so he commanded his servants to find him someone who plays well and bring him to me. He was told that the son of Jesse plays the harp and the Lord is with him.
So Saul sends a message to Jesse to send his son David . Jesse took a donkey loaded it with bread and skin of wine and one young goat and sent them by his son David to Saul.
Saul admired David immensely and he became Saul's armor-bearer. and so David played the harp for Saul when he became troubled.
Jesse Davids' father had 8 sons, 3 of the oldest sons followed Saul to the war and their names were Eliab, Abinadab and Shammah and David was the youngest but David kept going back and forth from Saul to tend to his fathers flock in Bethlehem.
Every morning and evening for 40 days the Philistines came forward and took their stand and one day Jesse had told his son David about Goliath's challenge and also to give to his brothers half-bushel of roasted grain along with loaves of bread and he must hurry to the cam and also take 10 portions of cheese to the field commander and at the same time to check the welfare of his brothers. Jesse told David where to find them they are with Saul and all the men of Israel who are in the Valley of Elah fighting with the Philistines. This David did but when he arrived there at the perimeter of the camp the army was marching out to its battle formation shouting their battle cry.
David left his supplies with the quartermaster and ran to the battle line to ask his brothers how they were and while this happened the champion Goliath from Gath came forward shouting his usual words which David heard. When the Israelite men saw this they were terrified and retreated. So David asked what will be done for the man who kills that Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? So the people told him about the offer. David's oldest brother Eliab listened as he spoke to the men and became angry with him. David said to him "what have I done now?" It was just a question.
Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
